Iron deficiency, normally associated with anemia, insufficient blood oxygen and subsequent fatigue, has recently been implicated as a significant complicating factor in chronic heart failure (CHF), undermining a positive outcome. Research has shown that individuals with CHF who were iron deficient and subsequently treated with supplemental iron “can safely improve functional capacity, exercise tolerance and quality of life.”
